This title particular intrigued me since I had no idea what a mattock was and now that I know I will certainly not be using one, BUT I will be sure to share this post with my husband who lives in that nebulous world between computers and getting outside to clear his mind who will appreciate your vivid insights.

Last week I had the idea of using a geologist's hammer as a kind of mini-mattock when pulling grass out of a wire fence. I did this after going through and trenching along the fence line with the bigger tool. It turned out to be very helpful for the detail work of removing clumps of grass without damaging the fence, hitting the posts, etc.

I bought 20 acres of forest land and cleared about 2 acres for my home. I used the mattock to clear roots, smaller stumps and brush. Had to rent a dozer to get the larger stumps!

As usual, Cliff is right over the target. I have 98% of the tools but not this one. As a contractor, I have to. I have split by hand probably 30 to 35 full cords of wood in my life. Oak, maple, hickory, sycamore, pine and probably some I have forgotten.. Hard work. And the non-workers always find a way to siphon off our efforts to enrich themselves. I need a Mattock/pick.
